Launch Day of The LILOE Devotional: A Thirty Day Journey of Living in Light of Eternity is officially thirty-one days away!
On May 20th, The LILOE Devotional will be available in both print and digital editions on Amazon. Over the next five days, I will be posting the first five chapters of the book. Today’s post explains the genesis of LILOE, and introduces the structure of the book.
If you were to describe your faith in one word, which word would you choose? In a personal attempt to answer that question, I cheated. Instead of using one word, I used five. In order to fit the single word criteria, I condensed my five words into a one-word acronym. May I introduce you to, LILOE (pronounced LEE-LOW). This acronym stands for five words, “Living in Light of Eternity.”
The genesis of this book spawned from a conviction to consider the hard truths of life, death, and eternity. Consider the sobering truth that the Bible does not guarantee you or I will wake up in the morning. In fact, no one can guarantee you will live to even finish this thirty day devotional. The future is unknown to us, but it is known to God. As followers of Jesus, we are called to live today in light of our eternal destination.
Consider also the glorious truth that “the coming of the Lord” is near (James 5:7), and Christians are called to “be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect” (Matthew 24:44). In other words, one of two truths are certain to occur in your lifetime. Either you will die first, or Jesus will return before your death. Regardless of which comes first, the question is, are you ready for eternity? For every man or woman, only two eternal destinations await. Heaven or hell awaits those who will choose either the narrow gate or the wide one (Matthew 7:13). For followers of Jesus, Christians are called to live today in light of their tomorrow, a heavenly home with God for all of eternity. In other words, your tomorrow should affect your today.
LILOE is the product of my own personal attempt to answer this question from the pages of Scripture, “How does a Christian live today in light of eternity?”
The purpose of LILOE is to provide thirty days of biblical truth, practical application, and Christian conviction. My utmost desire is for you to begin to walk the LILOE lifestyle God is calling each and every one of us to embark upon.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Each day of the LILOE journey will feature daily readings that are biblical, clear, and concise. Paramount to the Christian walk is pure, undefiled, biblical truth. Teaching is foundational to faithfulness to God because what you believe fuels what you do. Often, the apostles would share biblical truth first before providing life application. In that same vein, I have first provided daily Bible verses followed by an extended exposition of the day’s theme.
In order to further encourage you to walk the LILOE lifestyle, I have also provided ACT NOW suggestions that offer practical steps to apply and appropriate the daily readings to your life. In addition, FURTHER REFLECTION suggestions are included to offer additional reading for continued contemplation regarding the day’s theme.
A BEGINNING PRAYER
My sincere desire, prayer, and hope for you is that LILOE will encourage you to live the way God calls all Christians to live. I do not elevate the words I have written above the words of God. The Bible reminds us every word on every page of Holy Scripture is profitable for training in righteousness and equipping us for every good work (2 Timothy 3:16).
My prayer for you is that my words reflect the biblical words faithfully, but only the sacred Scriptures are useful “for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16). God has prepared good works for you to do before you were ever born, my prayer then is that you “should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10).
As you begin your walk through LILOE, I pray these pages will enable you to better journey on the road God is leading you, a road that travels from the dusty roads of earth to the paved golden streets of heaven.
